Business Overview
The main contributors to the economy of the city of Darwin. The most
important mineral resources are gold, zinc and bauxite, along with manganese
and many others. The energy production is mostly off shore with oil and
natural gas from the Timor Sea. But the leader in GDP contribution is the
Tourism industry which has developed rapidly in the last few years. The
tourism industry employs almost 70% of the Darwin city's population. Being a
port Darwin's economy has always been on a high.
Importance of Darwin port is expected to grow due to increased exploitation
of petroleum in the nearby Timor Sea, and due to the completion of the
railway link and continued expansion in trade with Asia. Recently various
