This political center forms a unique parity between the French and Flemish speaking Belgians along with some many other cultures, making it an international city. The city is also the major gateway for the country as it lies on the main route heading inland from the Channel ports. The administrative center of European Union, Brussels houses headquarters of most of EUs institutions therefore, making it de facto Capital of Europe. It is also the political seat of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Western European Union (WEU) and EUROCONTROL, the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation. Gained the status of the Capital of Europe and being a popular trade fair city, Brussels has become a bustling center for bureaucrats and businessmen and is a thriving cosmopolitan metropolis. The city is studded with steely skyscrapers, bustling nightclubs and the quintessential 21st century modernity. But it would be wrong to dismiss the city as the staid business capital of Europe as it has plenty to see and do for other travelers as well. A stately yet modest city, Brussels is home to picturesque medieval streets, impressive monuments, breathtaking cathedrals, beautiful boulevards, spacious parks and lively squares representing the history and culture of the country. The buildings in the city are a fascinating mix of architectural styles while numerous museums and the bizarre sight of Mannekin-Pis statue along with best bars, cafes and restaurants makes it more desirable. The visitors can also marvel at the numerous shopping options, may it be for traditional souvenirs or for famous Belgian chocolate and lace, while for those wanting some high culture are the series of events, concerts and festivals. Therefore, this vibrant, energetic and bilingual city is the symbol of continental unity, colorful heritage, crumbling barriers.
