The well-organized and user-friendly public transport system of Brussels consists of the metro, trams and buses. The modern network is provided with route diagrams and timetables posted at most stops and there are free maps available from the tourist office. Brussels is relatively easy to negotiate by car, though renting a vehicle is unnecessary as the city well connected locally, nationally and internationally.
Brussels Airports: - Brussels International Airport (BRU): Also known as Zaventem Airport, the airport is located 8m (13km) northeast of the city center. It is situated in the nearby Flemish municipality of Zaventem and serves mostly all the international and national flights to and from Brussels.
- Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL): Situated 46 km from Brussels, the airport offers 26 destinations including 9 capitals. It is directly linked with the city with more than 20 daily shuttles.Further offering a large range of services makes the Charleroi Airport one of the most appreciated airports in Europe.
Brussels Railway Transportation:
Brussels has comprehensive rail network with three main train stations:
- Brussels Midi to the south of the city core. It servers many international terminals like Eurostar, Thalys, HST or TGV and ICE. Where the high speed Thalys Train connects Brussels with Cologne, Paris & Amsterdam, the Eurostar Train Line links Midi/Zuid with Lille Europe, Ashford & London Waterloo.
- Brussels Central right next to the city center.
Local Transportation of Brussels: There are four companies managing public transport in the city namely, STIB/MIVB (Brussels' Regional services), NMBS/SNCB, De Lijn & TEC.
- Trams: There are mainly 3 metro lines in Brussels run by STIB-MIVB. There is also an underground metro line known as premetro. They provide an ideal way to get around and are faster than any other transport mean in the city.
- Buses: The city has quite a comprehensive bus network. Bus services like Eurolines and Gullivers also offers bus travel from many other countries.
The network is also well connected to the metro as well as commuter rail. - Taxis: Taxis in the city are metered and expensive and can be hailed from any of the taxi stands around.
Hotels & Accommodation Brussels receives a lot of business travellers and officials and therefore, the city has many business and luxury hotels to satisfy them too. Besides the whole range of budget hotels are also available for the tourists as well.
Most of the hotels of the city are cluttered around the central Grand Rue area and Avenue Louise. The rates of the accommodations in the capital vary widely depending on how many EU bigwigs happen to be in town, but very good deals are often available in summer when the bureaucrats are on vacation.
