Business Overview
Rio ranks second in industrial production in Brazil and is a major
financial and service center. The city's industries produce processed foods,
chemicals, petroleum products, pharmaceuticals, metal products, ships,
textiles, clothing, and furniture. The service sector dominates the economy,
however, and includes banking and the second most active stock market in
Brazil, the Bolsa da Valores do Brasil. Tourism and entertainment are other
key aspects of the city's economic life and the city is the nation's top
tourist attraction for both Brazilians and foreigners.

Globo, O Dia, and Business Rio. Major international pharmacuetical companies
have their Brazilian headquarters in Rio such us Merck, Roche, Arrow,
Darrow, Baxter, Mayne, and Mappel. Apart from this service industry is on an
all time high in the city of Rio De Janeiro. The city is experiencing a huge
growth in its tourism industry as well. The city resides the headquarters of
various financial and telecom companies. The city of Rio De Janeiro is
sometimes known as the unofficial capital of Brazil due to its huge economic
importance.

Riocentro Sports Complex:
Riocentro Sports Complex is an indoor sporting arena and convention center
located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the largest exhibition center in
Latin America and was built in 1977. The center has a total area of 571
thousand m². The Riocentro is a multifunctional area which is
especially developed to host indoor or outdoor, national and international
events. The conventions center also has a helicopter pad, fields, gardens
and a natural lagoon.
The center has five interconnected pavillions. The center houses
restaurants, medical stations, security and safety, cleaning, internal
transportation, Wi-Fi network, equipment and technical services, besides a
parking lot for up to 7 thousand cars. In the last five consecutive years,
Riocenter was chosen the best conventions center in South America by the
World Travel Awards. Riocentro was one of the major facilities of the
Pan-American Games of 2007, having 12 modalities, in addition to a Press
Center and a Center for the Transmission of the Games.
Estadio do Maracana:
The Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, commonly called Estádio
do Maracana("Maracanã stadium"), is an open-air stadium in
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was once the largest stadium in the world,
seating just over 200,000 spectators. This world class venue is owned by the
Rio De Janeiro government. It was opened in 1950 to host the FIFA World Cup.
Since then, it has mainly been used for football matches between the major
football clubs in Rio de Janeiro, including Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo
and Vasco da Gama.
It has also hosted a number of concerts and other sporting events. Although
the paid attendance at the final game of the 1950 FIFA World Cup was
199,500, the stadium currently seats 95,000 spectators.Despite the reduction
in capacity it remains the largest stadium in South America, and the
eleventh largest in the world. It is due to host the World Cup Final in the
2014 World Cup, becoming the second stadium to host football's most
important match twice after the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
Estadio Olímpico Joao Havelange:
Estadio Olimpico Joao Havelange (Joao Havelange Olympic Stadium), also
known as Engenhao, is a multi-use stadium located in the Engenho de Dentro
neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is used mostly for football
matches and athletics. The stadium hosted twelve matches of the first stage
of the men's and women's football tournaments of the 2007 Pan American
Games. The stadium currently has a maximum capacity of 45,000 people, but it
can be expanded to accommodate 60,000 seated guests.
