Overview
Rio De Janeiro is the second largest city of Brazil after Sao Paulo. The city is capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The city of Rio De Janeiro was the capital of Brazil before Sao Paulo. More commonly known as Rio, the city of Rio De Janeiro, is famous for its natural beauty, its Carnival celebrations, samba and beaches. The two most famous beaches are Copacabana and Ipanema. The city also has Corcovado mountain which is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The city of Rio de Janeiro has a population of aroundt 6,000,000. The Brazilian carnival is celebrated with huge excitement in the city of Rio de Janeiro, which has many Carnival choices, including the famous Samba school (Escolas de Samba) parades in the sambadrome exhibition centre.

The city is also sometimes called 'The Marvelous city'. The city of Rio De Janeiro hosts a number of events throughout the year. The city has various venues for trade shows, expos, trade fairs, conventions and exhibitions. Rio de Janeiro is home to the largest Portuguese population outside of Lisbon. Rio de Janeiro is one of the most spectacular cities on the planet. Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado Mountain is the most well known and recognized landmark of Rio. The inhabitants of Rio, called cariocas, are known for being easy-going and friendly. The city of Rio de Janeiro is of huge importance to Brazil and is often mistaken as the capital of Brazil. The city is also prone to crimes and violent mishaps. For this very reason it is also sometimes called 'The violent city'.
