Two Brand New Conferences For Frankfurt 2011
New markets, players and platforms at Publishers Launch Frankfurt/Children’s Publishing Goes Digital Frankfurt, 18/08/2011 - The book market has become more and more international. As large US companies such as Apple, Amazon and Google have established new distribution channels for e-books, boundaries have started to disappear and it is now possible to reach consumers directly all over the world. English-language e-books have become dominant, while ‘Global’ has become the new buzzword. Elsewhere, in the children’s market, the explosion of tablets and the proliferation of smart phones are providing many more opportunities for digital children’s books, all of which are very different from the maturing adult e-book market and the traditional children’s market of board books. In response to these changes in the marketplace, the Frankfurt Academy is adding two brand new conferences to its programme this year: “Publishers Launch Frankfurt 2011 – eBooks Go Global!” on 10 October and “Children’s Publishing Goes Digital” on 11 October. Both will be part of the Publishers Launch Conferences series which was created by co-founders Michael Cader and Mike Shatzkin. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google and Anobii – forward-thinking companies share their success stories At “Publishers Launch Frankfurt 2011 – eBooks Go Global!” international sales success stories will be presented and the impact of digitisation discussed by top-class speakers from the digital book industry. Mike Shatzkin explains: “We'll be exploring the differential pace of take-up of e-books around the world and the spread of English-language e-books and American-driven e-book stores and infrastructure. We’ll be presenting special research providing relevant data to our attendees; looking at some successful experiments in digital publishing and marketing; probing the changing practices of literary agents; and we’ll have presentations from major players in the global e-book world.” At this new full-day conference, masterminds and experts of the industry will discuss the fast-moving changes in markets, technologies and consumer behaviour, and will present their success stories to help others adapt their business strategies. During the morning session (9:00 - 12:30 am) David Naggar, Amazon’s VP of Kindle content, will be advising publishers on how they can gain the maximum sales advantage from the global growth of the Kindle marketplace, by telling them what they should be doing with their content, their metadata and their marketing. CEO of Anobii, Matteo Berlucchi’s presentation will mark the public launch of a new approach to integrating social capabilities into book discovery and purchasing, and Santiago de la Mora, Director of Print Content Partnerships EMEA, based in the UK for Google Books will also be giving an update on the Google global e-book roll-out and will share all the latest developments in their e-book programme. And later in the afternoon session (1:30 - 5:00 pm), Mike Shatzkin and Michael Cader will be interviewing key executives from Barnes & Noble Theresa Horner (VP of Digital Content) and Patricia Arancibia (Manager of Digital Content), hoping to discover more about how it was that the Nook, after overcoming a late start, became one of the top-selling e-readers in the US market with particular attention to how Barnes & Noble used their physical store presence to sell e-book reading.
