| Vancouver is Canada's third
biggest city. |
Overview
Situated in southwestern British Columbia (BC), Vancouver is a
picture-postcard perfect city lodged between Pacific Ocean and Coast
Mountains range. Often called the California of Canada, the city is
perhaps one of the most scenic in the world.
The West Coast gem of Canada, Vancouver is young, thriving and diverse
with the perfect combination of exquisite natural beauty and modern
conveniences side by side. Being extraordinarily beautiful and a major
center for arts, sports and fashion, the city is nicknamed Hollywood
North for the ever-present film crews.
Named after Royal Navy Sea captain George Vancouver who
sailed into BC coast in 1792, the city is barely 100 years old. Today
the shiny high-rise towers in the downtown contrast dramatically with
the snow-capped mountain backdrop of the city.
Apart from its spectacular setting, Vancouver is also one of the
world's premier meeting and convention destinations where top delegates
take the advance both of world class facilities and natural beauty.
The city is relaxed but bustling with many outdoor and recreational
activities such as hiking, cycling, boating, skiing, mountain biking and
winter camping. Therefore, endowed with these first-class recreational
facilities and interesting ethnic neighborhoods, Vancouver is called a city
of neighbourhoods and is consistently ranked the best cities in
the world in to live.
Though having British origins, the city today is home to people of many
ethnic backgrounds and religions, Chinese by far being the largest
visible minority. This mixture of cultures and its flourishing commerce
and trade are therefore, evident of its position as a major center in
the Pacific Rim.
