Business Overview
Santiago besides being the industrial and economic center of Chile, is
also one of the main financial centers of South America. The city
generates around 45% of country's GDP.
Chile is the largest producer of copper in the world and due to strong
growth and stability of Chilean economy in recent years, many
multinational companies have chosen Santiago as the place for their
headquarters. This has brought several renowned international brands
into the region including HP, Reuters, Intel, Coca-Cola, Nestle, Kodak,
IBM, Motorola, Microsoft, Ford, Yahoo and many more.
Some international institutions like ECLAC (Economic Commission for
Latin America and the Caribbean) have also set up their offices in
Santiago.
Presently, construction sector is booming in the city with several mega
projects still under-construction like Costanera Center, Titanium La
Portada, many other office as well as hundreds of high rise residential
buildings.
Trade Show industry is an another important sector of the economy with
various global business exhibitions like Expo Agua Residuos &
Ambiente, Edifica and Expoquim taking place here. Santiago is dotted
with several high profiled expo and convention venues like Centro
Cultural Estacion Mapocho and Espacio Riesco, which successfully host
much of these events.

Santiago Stock Exchange (SSE):
Founded in 1893, SSE is Chile's most dominant stock exchange trading in
stocks, bonds, investment funds, stock options, futures, gold and silver
coins minted by the Banco Central de Chile and US dollars on Telepregon.
The settlement for shares is T+2 whereas stock market indices are
General Stock Price Index (IGPA), Selective Stock Price Index (IPSA) and
Inter-10 Index.
Major Commercial Areas
Providencia:
Spread on the area of 14.4 km², Providencia is a small
administrative division of Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan
Region. Part of Greater Santiago, the region is bordered by Santiago to
the west, Recoleta to northwest, Las Condes & Vitacura to northeast,
La Reina to east and Nunoa to the south.
The area is home to many high-rise apartment buildings as well as a
significant portion of Santiago's commerce. It also includes Barrio
Suecia, an area filled with pubs, nightclubs and Barrio Bellavista.
The north of Providencia is its financial and commercial district,
which is centered on Providencia Avenue, a major shopping street.
The region is also home to many embassies,
including Italy, Russia, China and Uruguay.
