Transportation & Reach

Being
the capital city of Chile, the infrastructure of Santiago is quite
developed together with transportation and road network
Where the international airport connects the city with other countries,
the extensive rail network connects it with other areas of the country.
Further, the buses and taxicabs include the public transport in the city
while the highways and subways are proof of well-built road network of
Santiago.
Santiago Airports:
- Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport (SCL):
Situated 21km (13m) northwest of Santiago in the eastern suburb
of Pudahuel, the airport has two terminals, international and
domestic.
Santiago Railway Transportation:
- The railway system of Chile is run by Empresa de los
Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE).
- Most of the trains leave from Estacion Central (Central Station),
Avenida Bernardo O'Higgins (Alameda).
- The only long-distance passenger trains from Santiago go south to
Chillan with a bus connection to Concepcion & Los Angeles or
Temuco with bus connection to Pucon with several stops en-route.
Local Transportation of Santiago:
Transantiago is the name for the city's public transport system, which
works by combining local bus lines, main bus lines and metro network.
The system includes an integrated fare system, which allows passengers
to make bus-to-bus or bus-to-metro transfers for the price of one
ticket, using a single smart card.
- Metro: It is the easiest way to travel around Santiago as
it is clean & modern. Metro de Santiago has three main lines
while there continues to be a lot of investment in the underground
system as well.
There are special buses, known as MetroBuses, which start from
Metro stations thus, acting as an extension to Metro system.
- Buses (micros): Competing private companies run the city
buses though all vehicles are painted a uniform yellow.
- Taxis: There is no shortage of taxis in the city. The
taxis are black with yellow roofs. There are total five commuter rail
lines connecting Montreal with the outer suburbs. These all lines
are intern well connected both to the metro and bus network.
Hotels & Accommodation
Whether five star hotels, hostels or campgrounds, the accommodations in
Santiago are less expensive than any other place in North America or
Europe.
The cheapest accommodations are available in downtown area, El Centro,
and this is the obvious choice if proximity to museums and historical
attractions is important to you, while the commercial area of Las Condes
is upscale and very modern.
