Transportation & Reach
Shanghai has one of the best transportation systems in China. Not just
the largest city in Eastern China, Shanghai holds one of the biggest
ports of the world, making it a major transportation hub.
Having an extensive transportation network via water, roads, railroad
transport and air flights, the city has an easy access to the outside
world. The notably comprehensive public transportation system of the
city is largely based on buses and a rapidly expanding metro system. For
a fairly large sized city like Shanghai, road traffic is also smooth and
convenient.
Shanghai Airports:
Two international airports reside in Shanghai. The city is a nexus for
large number of international flights.
- Hongqiao International Airport. Located in western
Shanghai about 15 kilometers from the city center. It handles all
international flights.
- Pudong International Airport. Recently opened, this
airport is about an hour's drive from the city center. Besides
handling most of the international flights it hosts some domestic
flights too.
Shanghai Railway Transportation:
Two railways intersect in Shanghai:
- Jinghu Railway (Beijing-Shanghai). Passing through
Nanjing.
- Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway (Hu Hang Line).
Shanghai has two main railway stations:
- Shanghai Railway Station
- Shanghai South Railway Station.
Shanghai Water Transportation: 
Boat & ferries probably are the nicest way of travelling in and
aroud Shanghai. The most important route is:
- The Chang Jiang (Yangtze) between Shanghai and Chung Qing.
Apart from this there are more than 20 ferry lines between the Bund
and Pudong Business District.
Shanghai Local Transportation:
- Magnetic Levitation (maglev) Train. It is the world's
first commercial "maglev" train. Running at a speed of 270
mph, it transports passengers along a 20-mile track between downtown
Shanghai and the Pudong International Airport in just over 10
minutes
- Metro. Shanghai has 4 Metro lines namely, Shanghai
Railway Station-Xinzhuang, Zhongshan Park-Zhangjianggaoke, Light
Rail Train (Shanghai South Railway Station-Jiangwanzhen) and Line
No. 5.
- Buses. There is two main type of buses namely, city buses
and overland buses. Both are very cheap, convenient and extensive.

As a tourist city, Shanghai frequently attracts travelers from both
home and abroad by its commercial activity and scenic beauty both.
Besides offering wide array of free public parks and massive industrial
installations, the city also provides various diversified hotels and
