Overview
Shenzhen is a city of sub-provincial administrative status in southern
China's Guangdong province. The city of Shenzhen is situated immediately
north of Hong Kong. The area of Shenzhen became the first and the most
developed special economic zone in China. Shenzhen's novel and modern
cityscape is the result of the vibrant economy made possible by rapid
foreign investment since the late 1970s, when it was but a small fishing
village. Since then, foreign nationals have invested more than US$30 billion
for building factories and forming joint ventures. It is now reputedly one
of the fastest growing cities in the world. Shenzhen is home to the Shenzhen
Stock Exchange as well as the headquarters of numerous high-tech companies.
Shenzhen is also the second busiest port in mainland China, ranking only
after Shanghai. Shenzhen boasts of being a ma jor financial center in the
southern China.
While Shenzhen City does not have as many historical attractions as other
famous cities in China, it has created a number of excellent theme parks
which entertain while teaching visitors about China and the world. Splendid
China and China Folk Culture Villages introduce visitors to China's long
history and varied cultures, while Window of the World will take you to
every corner of the world in one day. Additionally, if you want to make your
stay even more luxurious, visit Happy Valley, the largest of Shenzhen City's
theme parks, situated on a picturesque coastline. The city of Shenzhen is
the major business hub of China and a large number of people visit the city
each year in the search of jobs. The city despite of being heavily crowded
is one of the best places to be.
