The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative processes.

CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organisation, playing a proactive role in India's development process. Founded over 111 years ago, it is India's premier business association, with a direct membership of over 6300 organisations from the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs, and an indirect membership of over 90,000 companies from around 336 national and regional sectoral associations.

A facilitator, CII catalyses change by working closely with government on policy issues, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness and expanding business opportunities for industry through a range of specialised services and global linkages. It also provides a platform for sectoral consensus building and networking. Major emphasis is laid on projecting a positive image of business, assisting industry to identify and execute corporate citizenship programmes.

CII's theme of "Competitiveness for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth" reflects the Confederation's commitment to balanced development that encompasses all sectors of the economy and all sections of society, at all levels - Global, National, Regional, State and Zonal.

With 57 offices in India, 7 overseas in Australia, Austria, China, France, Singapore, UK, USA and institutional partnerships with 240 counterpart organisations in 101 countries, CII serves as a reference point for Indian industry and the international business community.

Seaborne trade continues to expand, bringing benefits for consumers across the world through low and decreasing freight costs. Thanks to the growing efficiency and reliability of shipping as a mode of transport and increased economic liberalization, the prospects for the industry's future growth continue to be strong. The share of Indian flagships in the country's overseas sea-borne trade has been hovering around 30 per cent during the last few years.

Aero India has already established its credentials over the past decade. The show has built a sizeable brand equity in the aviation world and acts as a catalyst for the industry. The 10th Auto Expo 2010 has been the glittering showcase of the Indian automobile and auto-component industry for the last 18 years. Each Auto Expo has revealed to the world, the rapid developments in the industry and has been the launching-pad for many new vehicles as well as new technology components.
