CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

AAP or the Association for Asian Performance is an internationally based association of scholars and artists who are very interested in promoting and advancing the career opportunities in the theatre and theatrical performance traditions of Asian regions. Each and every year the AAP organizes an annual conference that includes academic discussions, performances and workshops. The association also publishes a journal named Asian Theatre Journal; it is a premier scholarly publication for the study of theatrical performance in Asia. The makers of the Japanese theatre wanted to develop a distinct form of traditional that was very different from the Kabuki form. They wanted to make a new form by copying the style and content of modern Western theatre of the day. Thus this led to the birth of a new distinct form of theatre art known as Shingeki. The conference to be held on August 1st & 2nd will have discussion on the origin, characteristics, future etc of the Shingeki art.
