The UIC Bilingualism Forum

CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

The UIC BilForum originated in the year 2008 in an event organized by the students and the name of the event was 'An Afternoon of Codeswitching'. This event was a part of a linguistics talk series known as UIC TiL, which was hosted at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the department of Hispanic and Italian Studies. The students presented papers on the Kay Gonzalez Vilbazo's Seminar on the topic Code-Switching, which was based on empirical research conducted by them for the class. The seminar was also presided by a guest speaker named Jeff MacSwan. Many of these students started organizing for the 2009 Bilingualism Forum. The 2009 forum was the first conference and after the success of the conference the students decided to make it a biennial tradition and the next conference was held in Spring 2011. After the success of the second conference it was decided that the future conferences will be held in the Fall.
