Berlin is the capital city of Germany. Berlin is the Germany's largest city and the second most populous city in the European Union. Located in northeastern Germany, it is the centre of the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan area, comprising 5 million people from over 180 nations. Berlin is also the third most-visited tourist destination in the EU. The city of Berlin is the center of culture, media European politics and science in the European Union.

The metropolis is home to world-renowned universities, research institutes, sporting events, orchestras, museums and personalities. The city is recognized for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife, contemporary arts and a high quality of living. Berlin has more than 150 museums, 22 of which belong to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation financed jointly by Germany’s federal and state governments. One historical location is Museum Island, on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1999. The city of Berlin is home to many international and national events, trade shows, expos and trade fairs.
