Transportation & Reach
Munich one of the main gateways to Germany, therefore, nearly all major
airlines fly to the city.
The city is also well connected with roads mainly through buses that travel
between most of the European countries and Munich. Besides within Germany
also, there is sufficient means to travel different towns in the country.
Munich Airports:
- Munich International Airport (MUC): It is about 28km (18m)
from the city center towards its northeast.
Munich Railway Transportation:
There are frequent trains to Munich from most of the neighbouring countries
and from other parts of Germany with Deutsche Bahn (DB) being the main
national service provider. The main train station of the city is Munich
Hauptbahnhof (central station).
- InterCityExpress (ICE): The high-speed trains running between
major cities in Germany and further afield. It provides daily service
from Dortmund via Dusseldorf, Cologne & Mannheim, from Hamburg via
Hanover & Kassel as well as from Berlin via Frankfurt &
Stuttgart or via Nuremberg.
- InterCity (IC) & EuroCity (EC): The service, which serves
cities in Germany and Europe respectively, including Augsburg,
Frankfurt, Nuremberg & Wurzburg.
- InterRegio: Trains that link different regions of the
country. It runs from Dresden to Munich while international services
arrive from Salzburg, Lindau & Venice via Innsbruck.
- InterCityNight (ICN): A sleeper service runs between Munich &
Berlin or Hamburg.
Local Transportation of Munich:
Munchener Verkehrs-und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV) runs the comprehensive
public transportation network of the city. It consists of an integrated
system of:
- 20 Strassenbahn (tram) Lines
- More than 80 Bus Lines
- 8 U-Bahn (underground) Lines
- 8 S-Bahn (suburban train) Lines
Hotels & Accommodation
Ranging from affordable to immoderate, Munich has lots of options when it
comes to tourist accommodations. There are some very old & elegant
hotels in the city, which are all luxurious & very expensive mostly
located in and around the city center.
While the guesthouses are good option for the budget travelers along with
many youth hostels scattered across the city. The areas with the highest
concentration of budget accommodation & small family-run pensions
include the vicinity of the Hauptbahnhof, Schwabing & the area around
University.
