Overview
The Capital of a Federal State of Bavaria, Munich is the third largest city of Germany. Located on the River Isar north of Bavarian Alps, the city is one of Europe's most prosperous regions. Munich is called ‘Munchen’ in German, which literally means ‘Home of the Monks’ and therefore, the figure on city’s coat-of-arms is a monk.

Munich is traditionally noted for its breweries and beer halls. It were the monks who started the beer brewing tradition for which the city is now world famous, particularly since it started celebrating an annual beer festival named ‘Oktoberfest’ in 1810. Today this festival is visited by millions of people every year consuming more than five and a half million litres of beer during its two-week run.

Presently the city is one of the most prosperous cities of Germany with hi-tech industries and high-rise office buildings. Not just an important convention and expo center, it is also the financial, commercial, transportation, industrial & communication cradle of Germany. Munich has acquired the 5th rank among the top 10 cities of the world with the highest quality of life.

Known in the world for its architecture and culture, this Bavarian city is also one of the country's favourite tourist destinations, offering a unique combination of modern flair and traditional charm. This one of the most fascinating destinations of the nation has abundant of theatres, museums, cafes and restaurants along with noisy beer halls and concert of classical music.
