Business Overview
Hong Kong is one of the world's fastest growing free economy in the world.
The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is the sixth largest in the world and the city
is one of the most industrialized cities in Asia Pacific. Hong Kong
government follows a policy of 'Official policy of positive
non-interventionism'. Hong Kong economy once depended only on the highly
developed manufacturing industry. But it was in the late 1980s when the
service sector started to emerge in Hong Kong. Today the city has a very
well developed service industry and the city is a major financial center of
the world.
Major Business Centers
Hong Kong convention center:
The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) is the largest event
facility in Asia outside Japan. The venue has five exhibition halls, two
ballroom-style convention halls, two world-class theatres, 52 meeting rooms
and two large foyers. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre became
functional in November 1988.
The HKCEC has made huge contricution in establishing Hong Kong as Asia's
trade fair capital. The HKCEC is owned and manged by the Hong Kong Trade
Development Council (HTDC) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
Government. The convention center occupies a total area of around 221,968 sq
m (2.39 million sq ft) with over 70,000 sq m (757,758 sq ft) of exhibition
space. The convention center has been going constant expansion to cater the
needs of China's ever growing event industry.
AsiaWorld-Expo center:
The AsiaWorld-Expo center is equipped with world class facilities to cater
the needs of exhibition organisers, exhibitors and visitors. This venue has
over 70,000 square metres of exhibition space. The center offers facilities
like acoustic panelling systems, modular seating systems and star-quality
backstage facilities. The major exhibitions taking place at the center are
ITU telecom world, a series of China Sourcing Fairs and the Asian Aerospace
International Expo and Congress.
AsiaWorld-Expo center was opened in 2005 and since then it has hosted some
of the world's biggest events. AsiaWorld-Arena is also located in the expo
center. The arena is Hong Kong's largest indoor seated venue. The arena
covers a totl area of around 10,880 square meters with a maximum seating
capacity of 13,500. The arena hosts several concerts, conferences and other
corporate functions round the year. The AsiaWorld Arena has hosted numerous
international music concerts of pop stars like Avril Lavigne, Christina
Aguilera, Eric Clapton, John Legend, Oasis and Westlife.
