Transportation & Reach
Being a major metropolis, Mumbai is well connected to the rest of the state
and country. It not only owns the busiest international airport of India but
its domestic airport also provides a major linking point for most of the
flights plying within the Country. The city also provides an important
national and international sea-route giving way to much of the Indias
cargo. The national and local Railways of the city also form its lifeline.
Mumbai Airports:
- Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, formerly known as
Saar Airport, is a major airport of Mumbai located at a distance of
approximately 30 km from the heart of the city i.e., Nariman Point.
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Domestic Airport, formerly known, as
Santa Cruz Airport is 26 km away from the central Mumbai and
approximately 3-4km away from the Saar Airport.
Mumbai Railway Transportation:
Mumbais Suburban Electric Trains running under local Railway Lines
are the lifeline of the citys transport including:
- National Railways, running under Western Railway connects the
city with other important cities like Delhi (through Rajdhani Express &
Agust Kranti), Ahmedabad (through Gujarat Mail, Shatabdi Express &
Karanavati Exp.) and Pune (Deccan Queen, Sinhagad Express, Pragati
Express, Deccan Express, Indrayani Express & Shatabdi Express)
- Western Railways, running between Churchgate and Virar.
- Central Railway , running between Chhatrapati Shivaji
Terminus (Bombay V.T.) and Karjat.
- Harbour Line, running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Bombay
V.T.) and Mankhurd.
- A new railway line, running between Shivaji Terminus (Bombay V.T.)
and New Mumbai (Navi Mumbai).
Local Transportation of Mumbai:
Public buses run by the BEST (an autonomous body under the BMC) cover
almost all parts of the metropolis. Apart from buses, Black-yellow metered
taxis and auto rickshaws also cover most of the metropolis forming the main
form of public transport.
The main road stretches of Mumbai are the Eastern Express Highway from Sion
to Mulund, Western Express Highway from Bandra to Borivali and Sion-Panvel
road that also connects the city with rest of the country.

Mumbai is well known for its hospitality containing hotels and motels
ranging from luxurious to budgeted ones. Accompanying the splendid rooms and
competent services are the spacious and plush conference halls, banquets,
