Yogyakarta is a major tourist destination in Indonesia and is visited by people from all over the world. The ancient temples, the majestic palaces, the beautiful sceneries and the intriguing festivals accounts for the immense popularity of the place. Thus the city of Yogyakarta is bound to have a well developed transportation system.

Yogyakarta Airport:
The Adisucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta is the only major airport of the City. The Airport serves flights from all over Indonesia and few international flights as well. The airport is located 8 km east of town and is a small but busy domestic hub presently undergoing renovation and expansion.

Yogyakarta Railway Transportation:
The Yogyakarta railway station is also called Tugu Station. The Argo-class trains (Argo Lawu and Argo Dwipangga) are the best of the lot: most comfortable and fastest . Taksaka is almost as good. These expresses connect Yogyakarta to other cities of Indonesia. Sancaka service operates in the morning and afternoon. This serves the region of Surabya. The other trains of the city are Prambanan Ekspres trains.

Local Transportation of Yogyakarta:
Bus: The major bus stop of Yogyakarta is Giwangan. This bus terminus is located 4 kms southeast from the center of Yogyakarta. There are regular services provided by the buses throughout the island, including Jakarta, Surabaya and Badung. The two types of buses that ply in the city are regular buses and patas. They connect all the major parts of the city.

Taxi: Taxis are the most comfortable and convenient way for getting around the city. The Taxi are not much expensive to hire and connect all major parts of the city.

Becaks: Traditional three-wheeled and pedal-powered cart Becaks in the city of Yogyakarta are also known by the name Trishaws. They are a popular mode of transport in the city.
