The planned city of Milan has every facility, from infrastructures to transportation, to its best. With Malpensa International Airport, wide network of roads, three subway lines and one of the most extensive tramway systems in the world, the city serves its visitors as well as inhabitants well.

Further the efficient bus lines and railway system provides comprehensive access to the city while taxis also playing a major role.

Milan Airports:
  • Milan Malpensa Intercontinental Airport (MXP): The city's biggest airport, MXP is located 48km (30 miles) northwest of Milan. The airport with its two terminals handles transcontinental and other international flights.
  • Milan Linate International Airport (LIN): Located 7km (4m) from downtown Milan, the airport provides the easiest access to and from the city.
Milan Railway Transportation:
Stazione Centrale at Piazza Duca is the main railway station in Milan connecting it with other major cities in Italy including Bologna, Venice, Genoa, Turin, Florence and Rome.

There are ten other stations most including Porta Garibaldi that serve routes to Varese, Bergamo & Cremona and Cadorna Station that run by Ferrovie Nord Milano (FNM). Rest of the stations mostly feed commuter routes.

Various rail services in Milan are:
  • InterCity: It serves destinations such as Rome while for ports, there are regular trains to Venice & Genoa as well.
  • Eurostar: It is a luxurious train service, which also links Milan to Rome via Bologna & Florence.
  • EuroCity: It links Milan to more than 40 other European destinations.
  • Some other services include Diretto & Inter-Regionale rail.
Local Transportation in Milan:
The efficient and inclusive public transportation network of the city is run by Azienda Trasporti Milanesi or ATM. The Network works on an integrated ticketing system wherein one can easily swap different modes of transport, which are:
  • Metro: It has 3 subway lines namely, Red (MM1), Green (MM2) & Yellow (MM3) with newly built extensions. The lines converge at Duomo, Centrale FS, Loreto & Cadorna.
  • Bus: There are 93 bus lines covering over 1,070km area. The network is also well connected to the metro as well as commuter rail.
  • Tram: The city together with Greater Milan has one of the most extensive tramway systems in the world with more than 286km of track & 20 lines.
  • Taxis: They are mostly white in color and are easily available everywhere.
Hotels & Accommodation

Although filled with luxurious and plush accommodations, the city is also geared with many 1-star hotels and youth hostels for budget travelers.
