Transportation & Reach
Being the important commercial center of the country, Osaka is also a
transportation hub with extensive and versatile commuting facilities.
While the Municipal subway system of the city connects it with other
regions, the JR trains and many private railways help to move around the
city. Furthermore, Nankai Railways and JR West are the other modes of
transportation in the city.
|Besides, its busy international airport and seaport makes Osaka an
important national and international gateway.
Osaka Airports:
- Kansai International Airport (KIX): The main international
gateway to Osaka, the airport is located some 40kms from the center of
the city.
- Osaka International Airport (ITM): Commonly called Itami
Airport, it is also a main airport that operates domestic as well as
international flights. The airport is located approximately 15kms away
from the city center.
Osaka Railway Transportation:
The trains of Japan are world famous for being clean and punctual and from
Kansai to Osaka there are two lines:
- Nankai Rapit: The Nankai Rapit brings into the southern part
of the city, to Namba station, in about 30 minutes.
- Japan Railways (JR): The service runs one of the best rail
networks in the world and is widely used for both business and pleasure.
It takes just over an hour to reach Osaka terminal in the northern part
of the city through JR Express train. Other types of trains running in
the city are
- Express & Limited Express Trains: These are
the best for intercity travel with very frequent services running on the
main routes
- Shinkansen (Bullet Trains): These are the fastest, with
compartments for wheelchair passengers, diners & even buffet
facilities.
- Other types of train include Tokkyu (Limited Express), Kyuko
(Express), Kaisoku (Rapid Train) & Futsu (Local Train).
Osaka Water Transportation:
The ferry services are also available in the city both for inland and
outland trips including Osaka to Busan (South Korea) three times a week &
Shanghai (China) twice weekly. Local Transportation of Montreal:
The Osaka International Ferry Terminal is located at Nanko in the Osaka Bay
Area.
Local Transportation of Osaka:
Public transport is well developed, efficient and crowded but convenient,
serving all the main cities. The comprehensive of local network includes:
- Subway: The Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau operates 7
subway lines & 1 New Tram line in Osaka, providing the fastest &
easiest way to get around the city. The subway network is the second
most extensive of Japan after Tokyo. The Midosuji Line is Osaka's main
artery, linking up the massive train stations and shopping complexes.
- Bus: Though convenient, the bus system of the city can be
confusing unless used with someone who knows the system. Fares systems
are highly automated and passes may also be available.
Hotels & Accommodation
The people coming to Osaka are mainly business travelers, therefore, there
are a large number of business hotels to cater to smaller budgets. Though,
there are a good number of hotels that are fairly smart.
The city therefore, has modern accommodations for almost every taste, from
