Transportation & Reach
The transportation of Beirut comprises of buses, minibuses & service
taxis while the International Airport, situated in the heart of the city
provides easy access to the city for those visiting from far off places.
Lebanon is a small country and being the capital city, Beirut is the
national transport hub connected to almost all the cities and towns of the
nation.
Beirut Airports:
Rafic Hariri International Airport or Beirut International Airport (BEY):
Formerly Chaldea Airport, BEY is located 9km from the city center in the
southern suburbs of Beirut.
It is the only operational commercial airport in the country and therefore,
hub for Lebanon's national carrier, Middle East Airlines. Besides it is also
the hub for the currently grounded cargo carrier Trans Mediterranean Airways
& the new start-up charter airline, MenaJet.
Local Transportation of Beirut
- A very common way of getting around Beirut is Service i.e. Taxi. It
is actually a very cheap method of transportation compared to Europe &
US.
- Whereas, Buses are used more for inter city transportation. There are
daily between Damascus (Syria) & Beirut and Homs (Syria) &
Tripoli. There is also a frequent bus service from Aleppo (Syria).
Hotels & Accommodation
Since most of the budget hotels in Beirut have been razed to ground,
accommodation in the city by no means is cheap according to Mediterranean
standards. Luxury hotels have come up since the facelift with world-class
amenities.
What more, most of the accommodations are located in convenient and
interesting areas.
