Transportation & Reach
The busy streets of Kuala Lumpur may remain jammed with traffic, but one
need not to worry as the city is well connected by domestic flights, rail,
bus, river transport and taxis to other parts of the country along with many
neighboring countries like Thailand and Singapore.
KL also has an extensive road network leading to the rest of Peninsular
Malaysia.
Kuala Lumpur Airports:
- Kuala Lumpur Airport (KUL): Located in Sepang just 50km (31m) south
of Kuala Lumpur, the airport is the hub of Malaysia connecting it to all
the continents. This award-winning ultra-modern airport is a major
gateway to South East Asia. It handles flights for over 40 international
carriers including Malaysian Airlines, the national carrier.
- Mirabel Airport (YMX): Located 50km northwest from downtown Montreal,
the airport handles charter and cargo flights.
Kuala Lumpur Railway Transportation:
Malaysian Railway run regular services from Singapore & Thailand to
most major cities in Malaysia including Kuala Lumpur.
- The main service running in the city is Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM).
Its a fast & efficient service operating in Peninsula Malaysia.
- The main station of KL is the KL Sentral Station, which recently has
replaced Kuala Lumpur Railway Station as the city's main station. Opened
in 2001 and located 1.5km (1 m) northwest of the city center, the
station facilities all high-tech services.
Kuala Lumpur Water Transportation:
Although most of Malaysia's seaports are intended for cargo ships, some
harbors do serve some cruise liners.
Penang is the main harbor for cruise liners operated by Seabourn Cruise,
Crystal Cruises & Windstar Cruises along with Port Klang.
Local Transportation of Kuala Lumpur:
The public transport system overseen by the government-run Rapid KL Kuala
Lumpur is increasingly fast, efficient & cheap. It comprises of 56
railway stations and over 90 bus routes.
- Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) service operates two KTM Kommuter lines
(electric trains) from Sentul to Port Klang & Rawang to Seremban.
There are also two Light Railway Transit (LRT) lines in the city, run by
Putra LRT and STAR LRT.
- The STAR LRT trains run south from Sentul Timur to Sri Petaling &
Ampang in the east whereas Putra LTR trains run between the Putra
Terminal in the northeast of the Lembah Subang Depot on Kuala Lumpurs
western outskirts.
- Cityliner are two of the main providers of Kuala Lumpurs
comprehensive and highly complex bus service.
- The KL Monorail serves destinations from Titiwangsa in the north to a
stop near Kuala Lumpurs Sentral Station and also covers
destinations in the Golden Triangle.
Hotels & Accommodation
From top class resorts with bars, restaurants, saunas, jacuzzis &
sports facilities to more easy on the pocket, comfortable guesthouses, KL
provides an extensive range of accommodation to both business travelers and
tourists.
Most of the budget accommodations of the city are clustered in Chinatown
and Golden Triangle (Bukit Bintang area). These areas are also the
entertainment, shopping & dining centers of KL.
