History & Evolution
The city of Auckland was first settled around 1350. The city was valued for
its rich and fertile land. After the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in
February 1840, the new Governor of New Zealand, William Hobson, chose the
area as his new capital, and named it after the George Eden, Earl of
Auckland, then Viceroy of India. Auckland was the capital and principal city
of the Auckland Province, remaining so until the provincial system was
abolished in 1876. The city lost its status as national capital in 1865, but
still the city was considered as an important city of New Zealand. The city
today is the most populated city of New Zealand and is an important center
for business as well as commerce.

Sky Tower in Auckland is a 328 meter high radio tower located on the corner
of Victoria and Federal Streets in the central business district of
Auckland, New Zealand. The tower is also known for observational purposes.

in every direction.
Apart from this the tower is a Major tourist attraction in New Zealand. The
Sky Tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers, and is

freestanding structure in the southern hemisphere and is 13th worldwide. The

by SKYCITY Entertainment Group. The tower is visited by millions of tourists

New Zealand National Maritime Museum:
The New Zealand national Maritime Museum reflects the country's culture and
history. The museum preserves the New Zealand's maritime heritage which is
rich with tales of exploration, discovery, design and success. The museum
has numerous restored vessels. One can get knowledge about the history of
Polynesian voyaging, immigration, navigation and whaling by visiting the
museum. The museum is one of the finest in the world and houses several
interactive exhibits. The displays are original from boats to life size
exhibits and include an amazing collection of models and artifacts.

Tohuna Torea Nature Reserve:
The Tohuna Torea Nature Reserve is an important Nature Reserve of Auckland
housing a large species of wildlife, primarily the aviary collection and a
rich store house of colorful flora and fauna. The Reserve has various trees,
water logged ares and bushes. The sand spits of the reserve houses a large
number of bird nests and one can witness a large number of bird species in
their natural habitat. The Reserve is untouched by the human activity and
houses the beatiful flora and fauna in its natural habitat. One can relax in
the vicinity of the reserve and it is the best place to take a break from
the hectic city life. The Tohuna Torea Nature Reserve is visited by several
visitors from all over the globe.
