ABOUT Atominstitut TU Wien

The Atomic Energy Institute was founded in 1958 as an inter-university institute in 1962 and opened at its current location in the Prater with the ceremonial start of the TRIGA Mark II research reactor. It was dedicated to the research and training in the fields of atomic, nuclear and reactor physics, radiation physics and radiation protection, environmental analysis and radiochemistry and nuclear metrology and solid state physics. In the meantime, have been added as an additional focal point quantum physics, quantum optics and low-temperature physics and superconductivity. Already at its inception, the nuclear institute was administratively assigned to the Technical University of Vienna, but retained more than three decades of his special status as an inter-university institute.
