ABOUT Calcutta Mathematical Society

The Society is located at Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta) in the state of West Bengal, India. Kolkata is a unique city. Having been the cradle of the Indian Renaissance and the seminary, the journey of Higher Education in modern India began from Kolkata. It is the home of many great Indians. Nobel Laureates Ronald Ross, C. V. Raman, Mother Teresa and Amartya Sen were all closely associated with the rich heritage and tradition of Kolkata. Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the literary wizard, and Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, founder of the Indian Statistical Institute, were also from Kolkata.The Societys association with legends like Albert Einstein, S. Chandrasekhar and Abdus Salam bears an eloquent testimony to the height of its excellence in the world of Mathematical Sciences.
