ABOUT Instituto Tecnologico e Nuclear

This Institute is under the dependence of the Science, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry. It succeeds the Institute for Nuclear Science and Engineering (ICEN), created in 1985 in the scope of the then National Laboratory for Industrial Engineering and Technology (LNETI), from the division in two new entities of the Institute of Energy, which had resulted from the extinction of the Junta for Nuclear Energy (JEN) in 1979. The functions of ICEN were then defined as to perform and promote research and development in the area of nuclear energy, science and technology, radiological safety and protection, as well as the continuous training and updating of technicians. ITN was integrated in that ministry having as objective of pursuing the national science and technology policies.
