Karachi Airport:
- Jinnah International Airport. This busiest airport of
Pakistan is also known as Karachi International Airport (KHI).
Strategically located just 9 miles (15km) from the city, it is the
major gateway for Far East and Europe.
- The city also has two other airstrips used primarily by the armed
forces whereas the old airport terminals of the city are now used
for Hajj flights, cargo facilities and ceremonial visits from heads
of state.
Karachi Railways Transportation:
Karachi is the terminating point of Pakistans railway network and
the link to the inland areas. The two major stations of the city are:
- Karachi City Station
- Karachi Cantonment Station Besides providing passenger services
to people, the Karachi railways also handles a large amount of
freight to and from the Karachi port.
Karachi Water Transportation:
Karachi is home to two major seaports:
- Port of Karachi. It is Pakistan's largest and busiest
seaport handling about 60% of countrys cargo. Located between
Kiamari and Saddar close to the heart of old Karachi, the port is
close to the main business district and industrial area of Karachi.
- The Port Muhammad Bin Qasim. Pakistans second
busiest port, it was constructed in late 1970s to relieve congestion
of Karachi Port. Located in an old channel of Indus River at a
distance of 35 km east of Karachi city center, the port handles
about 35% of nation's cargo. These seaports not only handle trade
for Pakistan but also serve as ports for Afghanistan and the
land-locked Central Asian countries. Soon new passenger facilities
at Karachi Port will start.
Local Transportation of Karachi:
Buses and rickshaws are the main source of local transportation of
Karachi. Motorcycle- Rickshaw can be used to visit even in the interior
villages and towns of Sindh.
Beside these, CABs can also be hired to visit around the city.
