UBM Asia announces two senior appointments

UBM Asia (www.ubmasia.com) today announces that it has appointed Wolfram Diener as Senior Vice President, UBM Asia with effect from 1 November, 2011 and Zhang Xue Qiang as Managing Director of Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co Ltd (UBM Sinoexpo) with effect from 9 September, 2011.

Reporting to Jime Essink, President & CEO of UBM Asia and based in Hong Kong, Wolfram will be responsible for driving UBM Asia's fast-growing business in Shanghai (UBM Sinoexpo and UBM China), Beijing and Hangzhou. He will also lead the company's jewellery portfolio which comprises exhibitions in Hong Kong, China, Japan, India and Turkey, including the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, the biggest jewellery fair in the world; print titles such as Jewellery News Asia (English and Chinese editions); and jewellery portal sites like JewelleryNetAsia.com. In addition, he will also be responsible for the development of UBM Asia's eBiz and on-line products. Wolfram will also join UBM Asia's Board of Directors.

Wolfram has more than 18 years' experience of working for the leading companies in the exhibition industry and in the emerging and developed markets in Asia, including China, Hong Kong and Macau. He joined Hamburg Messe in 1993, where he first encountered China, hosting Chinese delegations visiting Hamburg. He joined Messe Frankfurt in 1998 as Managing Director for trade shows in Asia and established the Shanghai Office of Messe Frankfurt in 2001. He was appointed General Manager of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre Company (SNIEC), the leading exhibition venue in Shanghai, in 2002. In 2005, he joined The Venetian in Macau as Vice President, Convention & Exhibitions. During his tenure at both venues, he not only established professional management teams but also grew the businesses of these two newly developed venues.

Xue Qiang will succeed Wang Ming Liang as Managing Director of Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co Ltd (UBM Sinoexpo) from 9 September, 2011. Wang Ming Liang will also be a board director, managing strategic issues and working on soft management to take the outstanding performance of the UBM Sinoexpo teams to new heights. UBM Sinoexpo is the successful joint venture company set up in 1998 between UBM Asia and Shanghai Sinoexpo International Exhibition Ltd founded by Wang Ming Liang in 1992. Combining local expertise with a global network, UBM Sinoexpo is now the leading private exhibition organiser in China with a portfolio of world-class international exhibitions, print and online products. With a net exhibition space of 150,000 sqm, Furniture China, UBM Sinoexpo's flagship event and Asia's largest international furniture fair, is the biggest exhibition in Shanghai.

Xue Qiang has 25 years' experience in the China exhibition industry. He started with Shanghai International Exhibition Co of CCPIT in 1986. In 1995, he was appointed Shanghai Representative of Hannover Messe International and played an instrumental role in the investment in the Shanghai New International Expo Centre project. Xue Qiang joined Shanghai Sinoexpo in 1997 as Deputy General Manager with responsibilities for operations and events such as Hotelex. When he left UBM Sinoexpo after eight years, Hotelex had expanded from a single event in Shanghai to three branded events and the exhibition space had grown twelvefold. He was the Vice President, Greater China & Reed Huayin of Reed Exhibitions from 2005 - 2008. In 2008, he joined VNU Exhibitions Asia as Managing Director and delivered record profits for the company.
