Durban International Airport is the major airport of Durban. The airport
serves mostly domestic destinations and the few international flights like
Air Mauritius and Swazi Express Airways. The airport is located 15 Km south
of the city center.
Durban Railway Transportation:
The city's trains are owned by Spoornet, which operates daily inter-city
trains to Johannesburg and Pietermaritzburg, with a weekly service to
Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Cape Town. The other train service provider is
MetroRail that operates frequent commuter trains to various suburbs of
Durban and towns nearby.
Local Transportation of Durban:
Bus: Durban has a variety of high tech buses which have CCVTV
cameras and wheelchair-friendly ramps and other tech savvy features. There
is also a normal bus system which also connects all major parts of the city.
Taxi: There are two types of taxis in Durban. The metered taxis and
the minibus taxis. Both type of taxis are relatively cheap and are a
comfortable way of getting around in the city.The Metered taxis are common,
generally safe and relatively inexpensive. However the minibus taxis are
cheaper than the registered taxis but are relatively less safe.
Rickshaws: Rickshaw rides are often an amusing ride. They are also a
common mod eof transport on the beachfront. Most of the tourists take
rickshaws just for the sake of fun.
