 Hotels & Transport in Johannesburg

Transportation & Reach
A young and sprawling city- Johannesburg, though receiving a new vehicle every second on its roads, lacks a convenient public transportation system. Therefore, a significant number of the city's residents are dependent on the city's informal minibus taxis.

However, the International Airport city is the major gateway of Africa connecting it with almost all the major countries of the world. While the road network of the city is also extensive having ring roads, freeways, bypass and highways that ease the traffic congestion in the city.

Johannesburg Airports:
  • R Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) or Johannesburg International Airport (JNB): It is Africa’s largest & busiest airport serving as a gateway for international air travel to and from the rest of southern Africa. The airport is situated 22km (14m) east of the city.
Johannesburg Railway Transportation:
  • The South African Railways, Spoornet is the national rail provider while the Metrorail is the suburban train service provider.
  • Park Station located on the Leyds Street, Braamfontein, is the main station or terminus of Johannesburg serving all Spoornet regional and Metrorail suburban routes.

Local Transportation of Johannesburg:
  • Bus: The bus system in Johanna is operated by the Metrobus. The Metropolitan Bus Services has recently offered a fleet of new buses covering 108 routes within the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan area.
