History & Evolution
Bern was founded on the banks of River Aare in 1191. Bern joined the young
Swiss Confederation, in 1353. Bern soon occupied several other areas nearby
and became the largest city-state north of the Alps. The city was occupied
by France in 1798. The most important landmark in the city's history was the
capital status which the city of Bern gained in 1848. The city has a vary
eventful and rich history. The city center has also been declared as a
UNESCO world heritage site.

Zeitglockenturm:
The Zeitglockenturm is the most famous landmark of Bern. The
Zeitglockenturm is actually a clock Tower, which is one of Bern's most
important sights. The tower clock symbolizes the city of Bern. The tower is
visited by travelers from all over Europe. The tower's history goes back to
1220. The tower was actually erected to serve as a defense wall from the
West. The west gate tower lost its importance as the city started to grow.
The clock was fixed in the tower after 1405. Since then the tower has
underwent many changes. The clock is made of wrought-iron.

The Zentrum Paul Klee:
The Zentrum Paul Klee is a very famous museum in Bern. The Museum was
opened in June 2005 and since then it is attracting travelers from all over
the world. The museum mainly depicts the work of Paul Klee, who was also a
musician, teacher and poet in Switzerland. The Museum was erected as a
memoir to the great artist. The Museum preserves around 35,000 paintings and
other artifacts of Paul Klee. The museum was founded by Prof. Dr. med.
Maurice E. Müller. This museum used up around 125 million Swiss francs
and it was made possible by a public private partnership.
