History & Evolution
The region of Zurich was first discovered by Romans in the 1st century B.C. And it was known by the name Turicum. The city was an important trading center. The major trade products were silk and wool. The major turnaround in the history of the city took place in the 16th century when it became the first Swiss city to adopt the reformation.

The city became a refuge for Europe’s dissident intellectuals. During World war I Switzerland acted neutral and thus the city was flooded with European refugees. The great leader of Russia, Lenin also spent time in Zurich and planned the Russian Revolution. During World War II the city emerged as a financial center of Switzerland and it still is the economic backbone of Zurich. Zurich is rich in various precious metals.

This has influenced the economy of Zurich to a great extent. The city also houses the world’s fourth-largest stock exchange. The city is also a famous tourist site and is visited by tourists from all over the world. Zurich has made frequent changes in the licensing regulations thus attracting huge foreign investments. The city's history is largely responsible for its magnificent architecture and rich heritage.

Fraumunster Church:

Kunsthaus Zurich (Zurich Art Gallery):
The Kunsthaus is city's important art gallery which has a large collection of paintings and artifacts. The art gallery displays works of world's greatest artists from the medieval period. Schweizerisches Landesmuseum (Swiss National Museum):
The Swiss National Museum preserves some of the Switzerland's most amazing paintings and sculptures dating back to prehistoric times. The museum also has weapons, flags, watches, clocks and other items which deal with the Swiss culture. The museum is an important sight of attraction and is visited by travelers from all over the globe.

Museum Rietberg:
The Rietberg Museum is a popular museum in Switzerland. The Rietburg museum is unique because it is the only museum housing non-European artifacts and sculptures. The museum complex has two buildings - The Villa Wesendonck and the Park Villa rieter. The Villa Wesendonck has numerous exhibits displaying collections of Indian, Chinese and African art. The Park-Villa Rieter has paintings from several parts of Asia. The museum hosts several international concerts round the year.
