Transportation & Reach
As a center of industry and commerce and erupting with social and economic
activity, Taipei has experienced a sharp increase in population and vehicles
in recent years. Being the capital city, it has also come up as the
transportation hub of Taiwan.
Till now the city has comprehensive bus-route network serving as a
successful public transportation system. But the new extensive network of
MRT has changed the whole face of citys mass transit services.
Taipei Airports:
- CKS International Airport or Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport
(TTY): Located at Taoyuan County, it is just 40 minutes away from
the city center. It is Taipei's main gateway having two terminals.
- Songshan Airport: Located at the heart of the city, the
airport serves mostly domestic flights and some charter flights too.
Nucleus of Taiwan civil aviation, it is easily accessible from the town
centers.
Taipei Railway Transportation:
There are two major railway stations in Taipei:
- Taipei Main Station: Located in the city center, it is the
largest Taiwanese railway station that functions as the nexus for the
MRT system.
- Songshan Station: Located in the eastern part of the city.
Taiwan Railway Administration is operated by the government and has
trains going to every city and county on the island except the Nantou
County in central Taiwan.
Taipei Sea Transportation:
International passenger ships ply from three main harbors:
- Keelung
- Kaohsiung
- Hualien harbours Passenger ships also support the airlines by
offering services between Taiwan and outer islands like Kinmen and Mazu.
Local Transportation of Taipei:
- MRT (also known as Metro Taipei): It is the most new and
efficient system of Taipei. It is also the most rapid transit system in
the country. It consists of six lines namely, Muzha Line,
Banqiao-Nangang Line, the Xindian-Danshui Line, the Zhonghe-Yonghe Line,
the New Beitou Line and the Xiaonanmen Line.
- The Bus System: It is a reliable and extremely comprehensive
system of Taipei. There are more than 300 bus lines and the major
transfer hub is around Taipei Main Station. Buses and MRT stations
accept EasyCards as Passes.
