History & Evolution
Although the history of the city of Abu Dhabi goes back to 3rd century B.C.
The city was inhibited by the Bani Yas in the late 18th century. At that
time the city was mainly involved in camel herding, production of dates and
fishing. The economic growth at that time was also largely dependent on the
pearl exports. A major turnaround took place in the history of Abu Dhabi in
the year 1958 when the oil was first found in the city. Sheikh Zayed was
crowned the ruler of the city with the help Britishers in 1966. He replaced
his brother Sheikh Shakub. Sheikh Zayed was a major contributer to the
formation of UAE. The city gained wealth when more and more oil wells were
found in the area. After the independence of Emirates in 1971 the city went
through a phase of rapid modernization. Several High rising skyscrapers and
monuments were built during this time. The city today is one of the most
modern city of UAE.
Site-Seeing
Abu Dhabi provides its visitors with a unique experience of a traveling a
city which despite of its modernization has still manged to preserve its
historic and cultural wealth. The historical and cultural sites in the city
are in abundance. Abu Dhabi has several heritage sites which attract
visitors from all over the world.
Emirates Heritage Village:
The Emirats Heritage Village is one of the most charming tourist
destination in UAE. The heritage village provides a replica of the old well
and irrigation system, mud-brick houses, old fishing villages and suoqs
(bazaars), which reflect the Abu Dhabi culture and heritage. The village
also has several craft workshops. The village also has a museum that
preserves diving tools, jewelery, weapons and coffee pots.

Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque:
The Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque is a important religious
landmark and an important architectural treasures not only in UAE in the
whole world. The Museum is also known as Grand Mosque. The construction of
the Mosque was contributed by designers from all over the world. The
construction material was also imported from various cities of the world.
The Mosque is one of the most visited place of Abu Dhabi.

The Nandi Temple:
Built back in 16th century by Kempegowda, the temple is dedicated to Lord
Shivas vehicle Nandi (The Bull). The temple is famous for a massive
garlanded black and shiny Nandi statue, carved out of a single boulder and
its magnificent architecture.

Emirates Palace:
The Emirates Palace is probably the world's most luxurious hotel. It is
also the world's most expensive hotel. The Hotel was constructed by the
Kempinski Group in collaboration with Abu Dhabi government at a cost of
around three million US Dollars. The hotel has around 400 rooms and suites.
The interior of the hotel is made of marble and gold. The Emirates Palace
also has a Conference Centre which hosts several music concerts and ballet
performances each year.
