Boston is the major transportation hub in Massachusetts. The city hosts a number of conventions, conferences and exhibitions. Boston is also a major tourist destination in USA.

The city is flocked with visitors almost all year. The city has a very well developed transit system. Subways in the city connect all major tourist destinations of the city. The streets and highways can get heavily congested in morning or evening rush hour. The city of Boston is well connected by all common modes of transport.

Logan International Airport:
Logan International Airport serves as a gateway to Boston and New England. The airport is served by all domestic American flights and other international carriers like British Airways and Virgin Atlantic (London), Air France (Paris), Alitalia (Milan, Rome), Lufthansa (Frankfurt, Munich), Aer Lingus (Dublin, Shannon), Swiss (Zurich), Icelandair (Reykjavik) Iberia (Madrid) and NWA/KLM (Amsterdam).

The Silver Line buses, free airport shuttles and taxis connect airport to all other parts of Boston. The airport is located east of downtown Boston.
Two nearby airports serving the city of Boston are :
  • Manchester-Boston Regional Airport located in Manchester also serves the city of Boston indirectly. The city of Boston can be reached from this airport by shuttle, commuter rails and buses.
  • T.F. Green Airport located in Warwick also serves Boston's southern suburbs.


Boston Railway Transportation:
A network of Amtrak trains connect Boston to New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago and other parts of USA. The major stations of the city are the north station, the South Station and the Back Bay Station.

Local Transportation of Boston:
Subways: The subway system in Boston is consists of four rail lines.
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Blue
  • Green lines
The red and Orange lines run from north to south while the blue and green lines connect the eastern part of the city to its western part. The lines split up further at some major stations.
Buses: Buses connect almost all parts of Boston. Boston has two kinds of buses. The slower regular buses and the fast Express buses. The former are expensive and have long routes.
Commuter trains: Commuter rails are mainly to travel across the borders of the city. The trains usually are late and are not recommended to travel within the city of Boston. However the trains are still used by a large number of people for commuting within the city itself.
