History & Evolution
The settlement around the region of Boston started around 1624. The place
was then known as Trimountain'. The name of the city of Boston comes
from the name of a small town in Britain which was the home town of the
native Puritan families. The city is also known as the 'Cradle of Modern
America' because of the historical Boston Tea Party in 1773 which ignited
the revolution against British rule. The most important landmark in the
history of Boston has been the establishment of Harvard College 1638.
The college formed the basis of the current educational and research
centers present in the city. The city of Boston was incorporated as an
American city in 1822. Boston was the center of finance and culture. Boston
soon became one of the world's wealthiest international trading ports. The
prime reason for this was the city' huge number of exports which included
rum, fish, salt, and tobacco. The Manufacturing sector, specially the
garment production and leather goods industries, have had a huge impact in
rapid development of the city.
This situation has not changed in the twenty first century. Boston today is
an intellectual and technological center of America. The city also is a
political fulcrum of USA and various government offices are located in the
region.
