Transportation & Reach
Transportation options in Las Vegas are numerous and varied. From renting a
vintage to hopping on a city bus, taking a cab or riding the Las Vegas
Monorail, the transportation network of the city is one of the most modern
in the world.
The classic and probably the most apt way to roam around Vegas is in a car
(preferably a Red Shark of a car) or on a Greyhound bus. Though you can also
travel by rail but eventually you'll end up on a bus anyway, as trains only
reach as far as California and Arizona.
Las Vegas Airports:
McCarran International Airport (LAS). Located at the southern end of the
Strip, about 8km south of downtown. It serves the travelers from other US
cities, Canada and Europe. Besides providing commercial flights it also
serves private aircraft, domestic and freight/cargo flights. Although
general aviation traffic flies into McCarran International, other airstrips
are also available.
Railway Transportation of Las Vegas:
There is no train service to Las Vegas, but you can travel from Needles,
California, Kingsman, Arizona, and Barstow by Union Pacific Railroad (UP)
and connect to Las Vegas by Greyhound bus. It is the only class one railroad
to provide rail freight service to the city.
Local Transportation of Las Vegas:
- Greyhound Bus Services. It provides services between Las
Vegas and Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Phoenix and Arizona.
- Green Tortoise Service. It offers a low-budget, communal bus
experience between Las Vegas and major cities on the West Coast.
- The CAT Bus Service. It is a popular means of public
transportation among locals and tourists with various bus routes
covering a large portion of the valley.
- Las Monorails. It ply between three main lines namely, Sahara
and the MGM Grand, Treasure Island and the Mirage and Excalibur and
Mandalay Bay.
Hotels & Accommodation
Generally tourists stay in hotels while they visit various attractions of
any city, but in Las Vegas hotels themselves are the attractions. Las Vegas
is home to 18 of the 21 largest hotels in the world.
Despite of the facilities and luxuries provided by the hotels, the room
rates and restaurant bills are the lowest in the western world.
Gambling is the top most reason for which visitors frequent this city of
casinos. These visitors are served by the most glamorous and unique hotels
in the world along with the facilities like expansive buffets, casinos,
pools, health spas and golf courses.
