History & Evolution
A settlement started to grow at the Alki Point on the eastern shore of
Elliot Bay. This region grew rapidly and is now known as Seattle. Logging
was the first industry that begin to grow in the region. The presence of
lush and dense coniferous forests boosted the timber industry in Seattle.
Seattle started earning wealth because of increasing demand of timber in
the worldwide ship building industry. The major event that shook the economy
of the city was the outbreak of the Seattle Fire. On June 6th, 1889 a
Seattle fire broke out and destroyed the buildings made of cheap but
inflammable Timber. However the city emerged strongly from the disaster. The
city underwent a rapid recovery phase. In 1896 the Klondike Gold Rush
resulted in huge immigration to Seattle.
A timber merchant of Seattle, Wiiliam Boing, founded an airline
manufacturing company in 1916. The flourishing aircraft industry made
Seattle a strategic venue during the period of world war II. Microsoft had
become the world's most profitable company by 1995. The company was founded
by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Both were raised in Seattle. Seattle soon
emerged as a center of information technology and research. The Seattle's
sole dependence on aircraft industry was diminishing and the economy begin
to diversify.
In 1990s a major development took place in Seattle's economy. The city
emerged as the new caffeine capital of the world. The company which is held
responsible for this rapid economic growth is Starbucks, which was founded
in 1971. Today Seattle is known as one of the most developed city of USA.
The city is a major financial and commercial hub in USA. Seattle is also a
center of educational research and development in United States.
Site-Seeing
Seattle attracts tourists from all over the world. The city is one of the
most loved destination in USA. The city is bestowed with attractions that
delight and amuse its visitors. From cultural and heritage sites to zoos,
aquariums and wildlife parks, the city of Seattle has something for
everyone. The city also has numerous museums, beaches, shopping and
recreation destinations.
Space Needle:
The Space Needle was built in 1962 and since the it has been a icon of
Seattle skyline. The needle was built as the symbol of that year's World's
Fair. The Space Needle is managed by Space Needle LLC and it has become one
of the most recognizable structures of Seattle.
The Space Needle is sometimes called simply, "the Needle". This
magnificent tower is approximately 184 m high and around 42 m wide. The
tower is completely earthquake resistent. The Space Needle offers a
beautiful view of the city and surrounding landscapes through an observation
deck. The tower also houses a SkyCity restaurant. The Space needle is one of
the most important landmarks of Seattle. The place is visited by millions of
travelers from across the world.
The elevator trip to the top of the tower usually takes few seconds, but to
get to the elevator you may have to wait for hours in queues. The resort is
also a dream destination for golf lovers. The Walt Disney World has five
golf courses. The Resort's lakes offer ample fishing opportunities as well.

Woodland Park Zoo:
Woodland Park Zoo was opened in 1899. The Zoo occupies a total area of
around 65 acres. The zoological garden occupies the western part of the
Woodland Park. The park is home to around 290 animal species. The garden has
around 8000 trees and more than 5000 shrubs. The zoo is visited by more than
one million visitors each year.

Pike Place Market:
Pike Place Market was opened August 17, 1907. This public market is one of
the oldest farmer's markets in the United States. The place is not only a
business place of farmers, craftsmen and merchants but is also one of
Seattle's most popular tourist destinations. The market covers an area of
almost 36,000 sq m.
The place is home to several shops dealing in antiques, comic books and food
items. The place also has fishmongers, fresh produce stands, and craft
shops. The Market is run by the quasi-government Pike Place Market
Preservation and Development Authority (PDA). The Pike Place Fish Market is
the major attraction of the region. Other major attraction is the Starbucks
Coffee house, which was founded near Pike Place Market in 1971. The Pike
Place market also has numerous important historic buildings in its
proximity.
The Alaska Trade Building, the Late Victorian style Butterworth Building and
the the Guiry and Schillestad Building are some of the important buildings
around the region. The place is visited by tourists from all over the world.
Traders and merchants from in and around USA also visit the place regularly.
